Preloved Studio Drop-In Sewing Sessions
Tue, 30 Jan
|Canons House
Come and join our social sewing community at the Preloved Studio. We’re tackling textiles waste by growing our sewing skills to repair our loved clothing items and making new items to love from scrap and donated fabrics.
Time & Location
30 Jan 2024, 10:00 – 15:00
Canons House, 19 Madeira Rd, Mitcham CR4 4HD, UK
About the event
Bring your sewing project to our Preloved Studio in the beautiful Canons House, Mitcham, and get acquainted with our sewing machines and cutting room. We’ll have skilled volunteers on hand to share their tips and tricks.
Registration is not needed, but we have a limited number of sewing machines. Machines can always be shared between new sewing friends so everyone can progress their projects.
Want to come along but don’t have a project in mind? We’re always looking for sewing volunteers to help us make reusable bags and draft excluders from preloved fabrics, which we will distribute into the community. The bags will help our borough reduce plastic waste, and the draft excluders help us to prevent heat loss in our homes during the winter.
Meet your Drop-In Session Leads:
Syebvonne Nguyen
Syebvonne is the Founder of The Little A.R.K, a local non-profit born from making masks for the community during the pandemic using preloved fabrics. She is a talented self-taught sewer, keen crafter, upcycling mastermind, and passionate about community involvement in reducing textiles waste. Syebvonne is Operations Manager for our Preloved Studio, and loves sharing her joy for creative waste reduction ideas.
Important Information for Drop-In Session Attendees:
This event is for adults only (18+). Sadly, we do not have the facilities to accommodate children during the sessions.
You can arrive at the Preloved Studio at any time during the session.
Previous sewing experience is recommended for these Drop-In sessions. The sessions are perfect for people who want to improve on their existing skills. We will be organising separate sewing workshops for beginners (check out our events list for upcoming workshops).
Sewing tools and equipment are provided by the Preloved Studio during the sessions.
Please clean and iron your fabrics before you bring them to the studio to work on. Some Preloved Studio fabric scraps and remnants may be available for you to use if needed.
Thank you to The Little A.R.K for organising this Drop-In Session.
The Preloved Studio is made possible with the support of the Canons House and Grounds and Merton Council.
