About the event

Did you know the average lifetime of a piece of clothing is only 2 .2 years, and three in five items of clothing will be discarded within one year. British citizens alone discard a million tonnes of textiles every year! We're on a mission to bring our unworn clothes back into use at our Preloved Studio.

Join us this Sustainable Fashion Week for our afternoon workshop on Basic Alterations, including shortening trousers and dresses, basic sleeve alterations, and button replacements. Bring along an item of clothing in need of small adjustments and explore how to alter your clothes so you'll want to wear them again and again!

Workshop skill level: Improver (you already have basic sewing machine skills under your belt.)

Meet your workshop facilitator: Fiona Graham

Fiona has many year's experience in the clothing and home textiles industry and has a lifelong love of sewing and making things. She worked in manufacturing, and in product development for major high street retailers. She has a wide knowledge of all garment types and sewing techniques to share!

Important Information for Workshop Attendees:

This event is for adults only (18+). Sadly, we do not have the facilities to accommodate children during the sessions.

This workshop is suitable for people who already have basic sewing machine skills.

Sewing tools and equipment are provided by the Preloved Studio during the sessions.

Please bring only one item in need of alterations.

Please clean and iron your fabrics before you bring them to the studio to work on. Some Preloved Studio fabric scraps and remnants may be available for you to use.

To get to the the Preloved Studio, head to Canons House and ring the buzzer at the main entrance.

Thank you to The Little A.R.K for organising this Workshop.

The Preloved Studio is made possible with the support of the Canons House and Grounds and Merton Council.
